What is your favorite movements?
Double Unders, Thruster and BMUs
What is your LEAST favorite movements?
Jerks and rope climbs, but don’t really have one
What inspired you to start your fitness journey at TCSC?
I was ready for a change from my usual 'Gold’s Gym' routine. My workouts had started to feel stale, and I needed something different. I was an original member at the old 'Natural Strength' gym, and when Kent took over, I could tell he had big plans for the gym. I was excited to see the direction he would take it and where things would go.
Do you remember your very first workout at TCSC?
No clue
What is your favorite benchmark workout?
I don't really have one, I tend to like the longer grind through them hero wods.
If you had a "Hero" WOD named after you, what would it look like?
It would have HSPU, double unders, OHS ('recently!' it has been a long road with these) and maybe some muscle ups sprinkled in there as well
Do you have a go-to pre-workout meal or snack?
I typically attend the noon class, so a couple of hours beforehand, I usually have a bowl of granola with frozen berries, topped with whey isolate.
What is your favorite/most memorable TCSC event you've participated in?
I really enjoyed volunteering and competing in the tournament classic.
What is your go-to pump up song?
I don't really have one, as long as its not the new rap or too techno.
2000+ workouts is quite the milestone! What keeps you coming back and staying so consistent?
I really enjoy the atmosphere here—there are so many great people, and it’s become such a big part of my life. It’s incredibly exciting for me, especially at 50, to still be hitting new skills and making progress (even if it's a bit slower!). Maintaining my fitness level is really important to me now in my 50s, as I want to stay strong and keep moving. It’s also a way for me to set an example for my kids, showing them the discipline and commitment it takes to live a healthy, fit lifestyle
What advice would you give someone who is just starting at TCSC?
Enjoy the journey—remember, there are many talented people in the gym, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But keep in mind, none of these skills came easily to them either; they all required hard work and discipline. There are so many movements that are humbling and challenging, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t master them right away. There’s no ‘quick fix’ for learning and perfecting all these skills. Stay consistent, and avoid cherry-picking the workouts. Some WODs will be tough and may push you out of your comfort zone, but don’t let that intimidate you. Even if they look overwhelming on paper, once you dive in, you’ll feel better and stronger for it
