Congratulations to Kevin Kelly, who qualified for the CrossFit Games Semi-Finals through the CrossFit Open and CrossFit Quarterfinals in the Men’s 50-54 Age Group.
This is the final stage before the Age Group CrossFit Games, where the field gets whittled down to the athletes who qualify for the Games.
Kevin was invited to participate in an in-person Semi-Final competition, but with work being especially busy this year, he opted to complete the Online CrossFit Semi-Finals last weekend: 5 high-level workouts over 4 days.
He finished:
58th in the WORLD
9th in CanadaHis top event placing was 27th worldwide.
For context, the Age Group CrossFit Games has 30 qualifying spots available in Kevin’s age group, and the Open started with 7,752 men in that division.
Pretty cool!
Kevin mostly wanted to see what he was capable of after Coach Kent gave him a bit of a nudge a few months ago, knowing what kind of percentile range he was already sitting in for his age group.
If you have seen Kevin load up a barbell in a 9am class, this probably is not a massive surprise. But as we all know, CrossFit has an endless list of things that can test you.
Over the past few months, Kevin has been spending an extra 30-60min a few times per week working on things like skipping, pacing, overhead ability, rings, and engine work to level up some of his weaknesses.
That is a pretty awesome example. We hope Kevin can be a bit of a trailblazer here, and maybe we will see a few more TCSC age groupers joining him on this stage in 2027.
Way to go, Kev!
